Welcome to our online Epworth Sleepiness Scale.


The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a tool to help diagnose Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).


Sleep apnoea is when your breathing stops and starts while you sleep. The most common type is called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Sleep apnoea needs to be treated because it can lead to more serious problems.


The most common symptom of OSA is loud snoring.

In this section, we will ask you general questions about your current health.
Please select one of the following with regards to your smoking status
If you currently smoke, are you interested in trying to quit or reduce your smoking?
How many units of alcohol do you consume per day?
For example: 6ft or 1.82m
For example: 12st 3lbs or 78kg
If you do not know your blood pressure reading, then please call into the surgery and use our free BP machine, located in reception. This will also record your height and weight. No appointment is required, please ask reception for a gold token.

If you suspect you might have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), please answer the following questions and a GP will review your answers.
When you are sitting or reading, what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are watching TV, what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are sitting in a public place (e.g cinema), what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are a passenger in a car for an hour without a break, what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are lying down to rest in the afternoon (when circumstances allow), what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are sitting and talking to someone, what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are sitting quietly after lunch without having drunk alcohol, what is the chance of you dozing?
When you are travelling in a car or bus whilst stopped for a few minutes in traffic, what is the chance of you dozing?
